Search & Rescue
Search and Rescue Team
The Marion County Search and Rescue Team (SAR) of Florida is comprised of highly motivated volunteers of all walks of life dedicated to providing assistance to the citizens of Marion and other counties via collaboration with the Marion County Sheriffs Office as well as serving fire rescue, emergency management and Ocala Police Department along with the surrounding counties by special arrangement with the requesting agency. The members are volunteers with expertise in a variety of disciplines to provide the Sheriff’s Office and other agencies with support in search and rescue, disaster response, evidence searches, crowd management, law enforcement support and other activities that supplement the resources of the Office. Our management, ground search teams and Off-Highway Vehicle Units, respond for emergency calls 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, rain or shine.
What we do:
The SAR Team, when not training, is working missions such as searching for missing people, evidence searching, disaster assistance (floods, hurricanes, fires, etc.), and public education. We enjoy providing an essential community service. Our trainings challenge our members, providing personal development and skills enhancement. We train newcomers to become Disaster Service Workers, how to use a Map and Compass, survival techniques, SAR techniques and equipment, communications, man tracking, search dog basics for flankers, first aid, CPR/AED, and more. Training continues through out the year.
